Walking Series: Candler Park

Candler Park neighborhood guide

Little Candler It’s a Wevenly feeling — that moment when you walk into a small cluster of local shops tucked deep within an old Atlanta neighborhood. I’m specifically referring to the hive of businesses at the intersection of Oakdale and McLendon.

The only thing more joyful than stumbling upon this area is uncovering the story behind it. Earlier this year, the shop owners of this corner of Candler Park banned together to give the area a more official identity, starting with a name. “Welcome to Little Candler” reads a new sign.

We are that no-name place between Little Five and Candler Park Market…We wanted a name, and now we have it,” explains local shop owner, Apollo Gott. In May, the Little Candler even launched its 1st annual Little Candler Spring Fling to bring the community together over music, food and, of course, some shopping.

Young Blood Candler Park Boutique

Young Blood If you visit, be sure to stop in Young Blood. New to Little Candler, this shop is full of brilliant, one-of-a-kind items from magazines like CherryBombe, to earth-bound scents, delicate jewelry, bright vintage clothing and more.

Candler Park Community Events

Restaurants &  Fall Events More events, YAY! Candler Park also hosts a Fall Fest and Tour of Homes, both in late September.

But well before them, I’ve added Gigi’s Italian Kitchen to my list of dinner spots to try. “With tables draped in red checkered linens, punctuated by candlelight and flowers, the cozy, unfussy ambiance” makes it feel like a natural addition to Candler Park’s other cozy retail area.

Cattycorner is Dr. Bombay’s underwater tea house — how fun!! I think I just might have to have high tea for my 31st birthday party.
