Vision boards
Last week our team at Delta rallied the troops for a creative summit. Amidst the Powerpoint slides, speakers, sandwiches, and brightly colored blazers, we did something unexpected. We broke out Elmer’s glue sticks, reams of stickers, sparkly tape and tons of magazines because all 40+ of us adults were about to unleash our art-school energy and make vision boards! To my surprise, as pop tracks began to drop the room transitioned to a quiet hum. The room meant business, falling into a flow of flipping, cutting, arranging, and rearranging. And apart from the collective serenity of adults doing crafts together, I loved this experience and the vision board process for a few reasons:
> Browsing for pretty possibilities. What does the life I’m trying to live really look like? What is my dream vacation, kitchen, career…charcuterie board? Having the space to pour over glossy pictures with a ‘yes this is for me’ or ‘nope, not me’ is SO cathartic.
> Going with your gut. Vision boards are a little bit different from other art assignments where you're confronted with a blank canvas, lump of clay or other more intimidating starting point. The vision board process is about collaging. You don’t have to create so much as collect, then trust your choices will meld together cohesively.
